Day-1 [Sunday]
Driving yourself 4-hours south of Auckland (NZ’s largest city) or 4-hours north of Wellington (NZ’s capital city) … perhaps stopping off en route at the extraordinary Waitomo GlowWorm Caves, or add a one-hour detour to travel via the famous Hobbiton.
Accommodation: Enjoying exclusive use of the 5-star heritage-rich boutique OLD POST OFFICE Holiday Home for the next five nights.
Day-2 [Monday]
A day to get out an explore the Ruapehu District – the outdoors capital of NZ’s North Island! Be it doing the globally renowned TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING hiking trek, or 1-Day on the spectacular PUREORA TIMBER CYCLE TRAIL, or hard-coring it on the 42 TRAVERSE mountain-bike ride ending at our doorstep, or a day of world-class FLY-FISHING with local top angler enjoying some of the best rainbow and trout angling on the planet, or a half-hour drive to Whakapapa to ride the fantastic SKY WAKA GONDOLA up MT RUAPEHU in the TONGARIRO NATIONAL PARK … options are endless!
That evening, after enjoying the Post Office’s sauna cabin and hot-tub spa-pool, we say it’s time to toast marshmallows over the fire-pit!
Day-3 [Tuesday]
First day of your two-day one-night “The Expedition” Forgotten World Adventures tour.
Today is a full day riding rail-carts on the Forgotten Highway from Taumarunui to the Republic of Whangamomona, to overnight at this charismatic pub. (But no need to pack up your main belongings as you still have occupancy at the Old Post Office – an overnight bag is all you’ll need.)
Day-3 [Wednesday]
Second day of your two-day tour.
This morning you will helicopter to the Whanganui National Park, and enjoy a 2½ km moderate walk to the extraordinary Bridge to Nowhere, then continuing a further 2½ km walk to board a jet-boat ride along the mighty Whanganui River back to Taumarunui town, and then just a 15-minute drive back to your Old Post Office home-away-from-home.
Day-4 [Thursday]
A day free to catch your breath, or maybe head out on more adventures – so much to see and do in the area!
But tonight, we say to throw on a feather boa or a fedora hat, and enjoy your own Great Gatsby evening, or Agatha Christie Murder Mystery night – heck, the accommodation is like staying in your own Cluedo house!
Day-5 [Friday]
This morning your leave your Old Post Office accommodation – and an easy breakfast is just a minute’s walk away at the fab nearby Blue Hills Café.
