- Check-in Monday, Check-out Thursday (3-nights) staying at the iconic art-deco boutique OLD POST OFFICE LODGE in the Ruapehu District, with its Sauna cabin, Hot-tub spa-pool, Fire-pit, two Kitchen-Dining rooms, and opulent Gatsby-style Lounge. [Rates include bedding, towels & cleaning.]
- Around 8.30am leave your accommodation to drive to Kaimanawa Alpine Adventure’s base to board your 10am-onwards helicopter flights to the KAIMANAWA DESCENT trail head on the Patutu Tops, for the epic 23km 2500ft downhill mountain bike trail, descending through Kaimanawa alpine tussock country, taking in the spectacular views of the entire Central Plateau and the towering peaks of the Tongariro National Park, with the final 8km twisting and turning through NZ’s native mountain beech forest.
- Special Notes: Ride includes 800m of descents and 430m of climbs, is a grade-3 trail (intermediate to advanced), takes 3-4 hours allowing times to stop and soak up the views, e-bikes are recommended for those not bike fit, and ‘Fat-Boy’ tyres can’t be transported in the helicopter bike-racks.
