- Day-1: Drive to your opulent West Wing art-deco accommodation at the iconic boutique OLD POST OFFICE in the heart of the Ruapehu District … outdoors capital of the North Island! That night relax, maybe sipping mulled-wine and toasting marshmallows around the fire-pit making s’mores, ready for the next day’s early start. [Note: You will have exclusive use of the West Wing for 2-nights either side of the 3-night tour, including the Back Deck’s traditional Finnish Sauna Cabin, the alpine-style hot-tub SpaPool, and the Fire-pit with Cape Code style seating.]
- Day-2: A full day to enjoy the Ruapehu District, with so many exceptional walking tracks and bike trails, or even a fascinating wander through the infamous Smashed Palace then a great bowl of chowder in wonderful Ohakune’s Powderkeg Restaurant.
- Day-3-6: Checking out from the bespoke OLD POST OFFICE Holiday Home, to relish the absolute pinnacle of FORGOTTEN WORLD adventures, with their 4-day 3-night immersion into explore the whole grand loop of the Forgotten Highway’s truly awesome landscape on their “Epic” tour including accommodation at the Republic of Whangamomona, Whanganui and the extraordinary Blue Duck Station lodge with dinner & breakfast; 142km of rail-cart journey over two days including 98 handmade bridges, more than 20 tunnels, and fab morn/arvo teas and rail-side picnic lunches; and two days of jet-boating up the mighty Whanganui River including morning tea at the Matahiwi Gallery, lunch on the Bridge to Nowhere, and lunch at Lauren’s Lavender Farm; plus all the while escorted by a wonderfully knowledgeable local guide.
- Day-6: In the afternoon, return home to the OLD POST OFFICE’s lavish West-Wing, with plenty of time to enjoy the Finnish sauna cabin and a soak in the alpine hot-tub spa-pool.
- Day-7: A free day to chillax enjoying the many other fantastic attractions in the Ruapehu Region. Perhaps walk the popular Ohinetonga Track just 5-mins away, or cycle the Old Coach Road from Smash Palace in Horopito to quaint Ohakune Village, or drive just a half-hour to Whakapapa Village to the “top of the Bruce” (end of Bruce Rd) to NZ’s largest ski-field to enjoy the year-round views by perhaps riding the Sky Waka gondola. Then later that day we recommend getting your glad-rags on to enjoy your own Great Gatsby evening at the OLD POST OFFICE … or maybe plan your own Agatha Christie style Murder Mystery (heck, it’s like staying in your own real-life Cluedo house)
- Day-8: Time to head away, and as an easy way to depart, we recommend enjoying some Eggs Benny at the fab Blue Hill Cafe 1-min up the road.
